Bar to PSI is one of the most common pressure unit conversions. Here, we will help you convert any bars to PSI (Pounds per Square Inch). We will explain exactly how to convert pressure in bars to pressure in PSI with these 2 useful tools:
- Bar To PSI Calculator. Here, you just insert the number of bars, and the online calculator will immediately convert them to PSI. Example: You insert ‘2.8 bars’, and the calculator tells you this is equal to 40.61 PSI right away.
- Bar To PSI Conversion Chart. We converted 0.01-100 bars into PSI and summarized all the bar-to-psi equivalents in a neat conversion chart.
Let’s start with the calculator (we’ll show you the formula below the calculator, followed by the conversion chart):
Let’s use this online calculator to solve one example to illustrate how the calculator works:
How many PSI is 0.8 bar? We simply input ‘0.8’ in the bar input field, hit ‘Calculate’, and we get this result (screenshot):
We see that 0.8 bar is equal to 11.60 PSI. You can also use a similar PSI to bar calculator here, if you need this conversion in reverse.
Let’s have a look at the math behind this conversion:

Bar To PSI Formula
Namely, both bars and PSI are units of pressure:
- Bar is defined as 100,000 Pa (Pascals, another unit of pressure). This is a pressure produced by a force of 100,000 N (Newtons) being exerted on an area of 1 m2 (square meter). Our atmospheric pressure at sea level, for example, is about 1.013 bars.
- PSI or pounds per square inch is just that; a pressure produced by a force of 1 pound being exerted on a surface of 1 square inch.
Now, to convert between these two pressure units, we only need to know this 1 conversion relationship:
1 Bar = 14.5037738 PSI
Basically, 1 bar is equal to about 14.5 PSI. Using this relationship, we can write the following bar to PSI formula:
PSI = Bar × 14.5037738
Namely, if we want to convert bars to PSI, we have to multiply the number of bars by a factor of 14.5037738.
Quick Example: How many PSI is 0.3 bars? Simple. We just input 0.3 bars in the equation above like this (with the result):
PSI (0.3 Bar) = 0.3 Bar × 14.5037738 = 4.35 PSI
We can see that 0.3 bar is equal to 4.35 PSI (accurate to two decimal places). You can check this result with the calculator above.
This is just one example. We convert pressures ranging from 0.01 and up to 100 bars into PSI, and summarized the results in this conversion chart you can freely use:
